On Saturday I shot a lovely wedding with my talented friend and colleague Chris Bodnar (www.chrisbodnarphoto.com) in Downtown Toronto...

The day was even more eventful when Chris locked my car keys inside the trunk and we had to call CAA and had only a few minutes to leave for the reception...that was located at the other end of the city...Thanks Chris ;O)

Afterall it was an amazing day that created beautiful images.

Escape...

This May long weekend was the perfect time to escape the busy city for a bit to the cottage. It was a well deserved little vacation and I couldn't wait to have 4 days with nothing around me. No people & TV, -just water, my boyfriend and my camera ;) With 10 C it was a bit cold, but oh well, I am not complaining ;) Next weekend will be warmer...

Fundraiser - Habitat for Humanity

I always love to be part of Fundraisers here in Toronto . As mentioned last week, I was part of Day 2 of "The Women built Blitz 2009" project presented by Habitat for Humanity.

From May 1-9th 2009, hundreds of Toronto women will come together - with hammers in their hand to launch the largest Women Build project ever to be undertaken in Canada. The goal is to build 16 homes and break the cycle of poverty for 16 families and also to raise 2 Million Dollars for the much needed building materials so that families can move into simple,decent, affordable homes.

I am not gonna lie,-getting up at 6 am and driving to Scarborough wasn't exactly something I was looking forward to :) but when I arrived I received a warm welcome from crew members and about 200 volunteers.

It was a nice and sunny morning,the perfect weather, start was 8.30 am and volunteers were organized into small groups, led by crew leaders who volunteered with their construction knowledge and experience.

Breakfast, Lunch,Footwear, Hard hats, work gloves and safety glasses were provided, even sunblock ;)

I left with a big smile on my face but also learned a lot today. These women came together to do something amazing for our community. They donated time, money and physical strength into this project. I can't wait to see the end results.

In the beginning there was...

and after a long month of talking and lots of sunshine...

Well, a month later(surprisingly) they still love growing at there little sunny condo-own "garden space".... Cant wait for some sunflowers and delish cherry tomatoes. Better hurry up guys, I am getting hungry...

Today I found this American Penny from 1944 in my wallet...nothing amazing, I know and probably nothing worth...but I did a little research on it and found this info:

If the Penny doesn't have a mintmark, it was most likely minted in Philadelphia. Interesting trivia: Pennies minted between 1944 and 1946 were made from the brass from World War II shell casings...

I am such a nerd...

Movie & Soundtrack:

I found out about this movie just recently (Thanks again Christina!) I even uploaded the Soundtrack first before seeing it...and fell in love with it.

This 2007 Irish movie is a simple, classic story of two artists (he a street musician, she, a Czech immigrant) falling in love, a movie that is absolutely worth seeing more than "once".

Book:

As many other photographers out there I had to get this book and I started reading it, well...while "at work" :)

This book clocks in at 237 pages and has a nice mix of images and the back stories behind them.

I really enjoyed the book and reading her perspective on how she produces the image she creates as well as the logistics, thought and ideas that go into creating each shot.

Her anecdotes are quite entertaining as well, since many of her subjects she's photographed are well known. There are some good Q&A towards the end for the FAQ crowd, and its a great book for beginners and other professionals. Pick up your copy today (i.e Indigo $45 Cad), or borrow mine! ;P

Wedding in March

On March 21st I had the honor of shooting my friends wedding and my second for 2009.

Thank you guys for everything, it was an amazing day! :)

A couple suggestions for you guys out there that are getting married or simply attending any kind of weddings:

1. Don't forget your tie!...

2. Practice your moves and poses before the big day:

3. Make sure you book a venue that comes with a broom and other useful props:

Boj Decor - a beautiful story to share

I am always looking for different things to include into my work. One day I had an idea about butterflies. Getting paper butterflies in Kraft stores, ToysRus and Dollar stores seemed to be unsuccessful - until a couple of months ago when I stumbled across this little decor store in Midtown Toronto. Inside, I found this butterfly sitting on top of an Eiffel tower imitation. Lucy, owner of the store, told me that butterflies became a special meaning to her after her daughter passed away.

She was absolutely sure that her daughter must have brought me into her store that one day. She handed me her business card,- with a picture of her daughter in the front and a blue butterfly on the back.

There are many links with butterflies in mythology from all over the world, many of which, in particular Greek mythology, link butterflies to the human soul. The Ancient Greeks also considered butterflies as the souls of those who had passed away.I am sure you will see this little guy sooner or later appearing in one of my images again! I am a huge believer that certain things are just meant to be!

Since that day Lucy and I became good friends and I stop by at least once a week to say hi.

Why did I move to Canada?

It is April 6th and it is snowing?!-Great. I had already cleaned out my winter stuff and was getting ready for Spring. Every Winter (this is my 3rd) I ask myself the same question: Why did I move to Canada, to a Country where freezing temperatures and snow seem to dominate my daily life for about 6 months of the year... ?Just a side note: Germany had 22 Celsius yesterday. Don't get me wrong, I love Canada but the Winter is driving me insane. Until it is getting warmer, get yourself a hot chocolate and enjoy one of my favorite Spring pics I took last year in Niagara Falls. Sending you guys out there some warm thoughts ;)

I think I owe a little introduction about myself.
But where do I start?
I am blond, 5'8 and enjoy long walks on the beach...oh wait...

wrong site... :P

I was born and raised in Germany and moved to Canada in 2006.
Why Canada? One summer day,about 5 years ago,I was chased down the street by a Canadian guy(now my boyfriend)and ... here I am, calling Canada my new home ;) (Not so much in the Winter)

I consider myself very lucky (and my parent’s pretty patient) to have had the chance to start any kind of hobby or activity I wanted when I was a child. I think I pretty much did everything that was out there. Ballet & Karate classes, Piano & music lessons, painting classes…you name it…I was there.

I have always been fascinated with any form of creativity and got my first camera from my grandmother when I was 8 years old and got hooked on it since then….
It wasn’t until about 2 years ago when I took my hobby to a more professional level.

Photography is my inspiration and the way I express myself. I love to capture special moments and turn it into everlasting memories. It is very important to me to tell a story with every picture I take and to showcase the true personality of each of my subjects.
